Suitable Colors For the Workplace
Certain situations
call for you to pick colors to paint with for the workplace. One would be, you’re moving in to a new office; second, you need
to redecorate. Either way, there will be a time you’ll be tasked to keep things interesting in the
office --cultivating a pleasant work environment. So, it’s great to know what colors are suitable just
in case.
Why? Because picking
out certain colors affect how your employees or co-workers perform in the
office.
The Psychology Behind It
Before we go directly
to commercial painting tips, understanding how colors affect human behaviour is
also understanding the psychology behind it.
After we are born, we
are immediately exposed to colors. And as we grow up, there’s a certain pattern as to how our brains
associate colors to a lot of things. This reaction to certain colors then gets
so ingrained in one’s psychology that it
affects an individual’s behaviour. That’s why establishments like restaurants are
colored red and why logos are in certain colors. In work situations, you can
use this to affect mood, motivation, productivity, and performance.
What These Colors Mean
·
Yellow – The color of the sun. If the office involves a
lot of creative work, this is the color for you. Yellow is the color for
optimism and creativity. This helps advertising agencies, designers, and
architects get that stimulation and energy.
·
Blue – The color of the sky and sea. Calm and
relaxed. Blue provides that level of comfort one needs in jobs that require focus.
Businessmen and accountants benefit most from this color as this color invokes
a feeling of professionalism than any other color. Suitable for problem solving
or any jobs that take a lot of thinking.
·
Red – The color of power. Hearts go immediately racing
at the sight of this color. Suitable for jobs that require physical work. Car
repair shops, gyms and workshops are prime examples of places that would be
happy with this color. This also proves beneficial to work that involves a lot
of night shifts. Red can definitely stop someone from dozing off.
·
Green – The color of nature. Just like the color blue,
green invokes a feeling of serenity and balance. Health Spas and any work that
provide therapy, certainly benefits from this color but it’s not restricted to that. Can also apply to
work that involves long hours staring at computers. Take call centers for
example. Green is soothing to the eyes and reduces stress.
Colors to think twice before
considering
·
White – The color of sterility. White is rather a
neutral color and people get mixed feelings towards it. Though advisable for
medical work or any work that requires one to be thoroughly clean and sterile,
anything other than that, you might want to skip this. White is borderline
boring and you don’t want to have that effect
on your workforce.
·
Black – The color of sophistication. Probably the
hardest color to pull off. Ideal for the CEO or anyone in senior management. It
exudes elegance, strength and authority. Which is perfect if everyone in the
room is required to have the same mindset. But generally, the color black is
for the lone wolf.
This is just a
general guideline and should not be followed meticulously. Colors can be
combined together to achieve a desired effect. Yellow for example can be accented
with blue to have that energetic effect but at the same time telling people to
remain focused. These are just examples of commercial painting tips applicable
to the workplace.
